The
O'Dwyer
Pedigrees
recorded
by
O'Hart.
Adapted
from
John
O'Hart,
Irish
Pedigrees,
or
The
Origin
and
Stem
of
the
Irish
Nation,
(James
Duffy,
Dublin,
1892)
pp.
44-55,
351-355,
430-432,
640,
641.
[O'Hart
lists
three
lineages
of
the
Dwyer
name:
- Dwyer
(No.
1)
of
Leinster
and
Munster,
Lords
of
Kilnamanagh,
Co.
Tipperary.
- Dwyer
(No.
2)
of
Kilnamangh.
- Dwyer
(No.
3)
of
Ulster.
This
appears
to
have
been
an
unconnected
family
of
the
same
anglicised
name
derived
from
O'Dubhfir
(dubhfear
-
the
dark-featured
man).
No
detailed
genealogy
is
given
other
than
to
state
that
it
was
connected
to
the
O'Hart
pedigree.
The
first
two
shared
the
same
stem
as
described
below,
while
the
third
was
apparently
unrelated.
It
is
worth
noting
that
there
is
a
striking
similarity
between
names
5
to
9
of
the
O'Dwyer
(No.1)
pedigree
and
names
20-24
of
O'Dwyer
(No.
2).
This
suggests
the
possibility
that
the
two
genealogies
were
perhaps
differing
folk
memories
referring
to
the
same
line,
rather
than
two
distinct
branches.
Note
also
the
two
differing
interpretations
of
the
origin
of
the
name
O'Dwyer
(in
Irish
O'Duibhir,
with
variants
O'Dubhiire,
O'Duibhidhir),
a
matter
that
remains
somewhat
controversial.
It
is
also
worth
pointing
out
that
neither
of
these
pedigrees
appears
to
line
up
with
the
'official'
genealogy
of
the
O'Dwyer
chiefs
held
at
the
Chief
Herald's
office
in
Dublin]
